Reading
Please remember that the kids are to be reading 100 minutes every week. Please encourage your child to choose just right books for themselves to read independently.
There have been many skills we have been working on. The class read Snowy Nap a few times and we worked on foreshadowing, predicting, sequencing a story, and answering comprehension questions. One thing we have really been pushing is answering questions in complete sentences.
Comparing fiction and informational text has been touched on. This is something that we will continue to practice.
Now we are circling back to reading informational text, and being able to pull information out of it. One strategy we have been practicing is looking at the questions first, reading, then reading again to look for the answers. I have reminded the class that good readers reread a few times to help understand and locate information. This will help when we do our research biography project.
Our focus is identifying words that need capital letters, and understanding what punctuation marks go with specific sentences. We will continue to work on making sure questions are answered in complete sentences, using part of the question in our answers.
